problems to solve:

  • NOSTAR in header
  • ople server communication for mirc spooler does not seem to be working at all.
  • remove extra digits in fiber explorer.
  • fix defaults cpeaks and beamorder
  • fix TIME in mirc
  • reduce delay for man offsets upload to vme (10Hz)
  • eliminate/minimize overheads for fiber explorer

UT2011Jul09[edit]

Starting up on sky for the run.

all times are local.

20:30p on sky. Our first star is a calibrator for delta sco, HD 133670. we found some of the fiber images to be crap -- esp. #4 (W2) We went to brighter star DEL SCO to try to optimize fiber focus.

r0~3-4cm

we are re-focusing beam4 (W2) which is really bad!! this means the actual telescope is out of focus.

22:27p we have had hard time optimizing flux. the r0 is crap and highly variable and we are observing at low elevation (30 degrees). we finally decided to focus on this more seriously and find a brighter target (hd150450) which is H=0, V=5. for just focusing.

we are doing a super systematic focus work... wait and see! {Focus Test}

1:00am. Now that we have "good" focus, we are now changing POPs to the setting for Zet And. Then we will try to find fringes on a calibrator and test the Group delay tracker (GDT). Stefan/Fabien have been fixing the gdt2 delayline controller!

1:13am. 4 POPs changed!!

1:22am. now we are going to Alpha And as a low priority science target and a bright easy fringe finding target.... (this is a binary)

note that for this dec 29 degrees

2am. we are now searching for S1S2W1 fringes on Alp And!!

@5:20am +2.88mm on E1-(W1) @5:24am +2.856 on E1. (W1 REF) @5:32am +3.207 on E1(-W1). @5:41am +3.326 on E1

not much luck with fringes.. only E1-W1 so far. search range so far: S1 0->+10.5mm

  0->-

S2 0-> E2 0->-10.1 (let's go othe rway)

  0->+0.6

(cross fringe: S2(+0.015)-E2(+0.55)) E2 0->5.3

  10->

S2 ** Fringes at +5.523mm W2 0->+11.2

  0->-0.040 (!!!) Fringe at -0.04 mm !!

02:57am 3T DATA: #37-#60 4T DATA: #61-#80 02:58am Offsets: E1: 3.797, W2: 0.047

03:11am Offsets: S1 (-4.19) S2 (+5.6mm)

03:16am 5T DATA #82-

S1 -4.043, S2 +5.754, E1 +4.084, E2 +6.10, W1 REF, W2 +0.337

03:19am 6T DATA #101->140 Shutters 141->220 (first couple of files #141, 142 has some light from beams5,6)

03:56am. going to 37 And.. our calibrator for Zet and and alp And.

04:08am. setting up on 37And.

37 AND 04:28am

S1 , S2 , E1 +3.677, E2 +5.798, W1 REF, W2

04:4am S1 -3.13, S2 +6.573, E1 +3.888, E2 +6.024, W1 REF, W2 0.624 6T DATA: DATA #221 Shutters #274- we having lot so data saving errors. many files seem incmoplete (10-20% !!) the signal s are so weak. there is a serious chance that 37 And was too weak for calibration.

05:05a ZETA AND

we have hardly any time. will try to get 5T data (1 T is out of range already). we already lost E1. r_0 = 4-10cm

We took a mini shutter set (which crashed part way through forewgound) Then we took DATA starting at #403, while searching for fringes (lots of blnak or partial data). but we are close to sunset.

5:30am seaching for fringes.

cross fringe S1 -3.86, S2+5.71 S1 -1.16, S2 8.43, E1 XX, E2 XXX W1 rEF W2 +1.6 5:38a: E2 out of range. getting some 4T (S1-S2-W1-W2) data at #529-

closing up.

UT2011Jul10[edit]

Delta Sco.

Changed beam order to

W1 S2 S1 E1 E2 W2 in order to put strongest fringe b2-b3 near DC spike and Bright E1 onto lame fiber B4, we have a new order above.

22:03a we have done some fiber refocus. fluxes on fiber explorer for 2 maps: Max: 285, 118, 135,114,326,223

actually, we are slightly saturating in some photometric beams on some files!!!

22:12a. we have found all but one fringe.. still searching a wide range! found all the frinegs. doing a final fiber explorere (expensive) 22:32

Offsets: W1 REF S2 7.687 S1 3.185 E1 XXX E2 5.914 W2 0.037 Taking DATA #15-134, Shutters.

JDM will go work on mirc6 pipeline now!
