UM Fiber Pilot Links
Purchasing Notes
Specialty Fiber
- JDM rejected SM fiber due to polarization mode dispersion problems for kilometric lengths
- JDM concluded we need polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber
- Two kinds of fiber we are considering
1. Corning Panda PM 1550
2. Corning Panda PM dispersion-shifted 1550
Composite Cable Company
- will include copper wires in a protected cable, along with the specialty fiber
- occfiber.com is currently best bet at $5/meter
Polarization Optics for Visible and H band Tests
- Analyzer / Polarization Beamsplitter Cubes (need 3).
Melles Griot 255 BS cube works from visible to NIR (400-2000nm) for $581 each. Plus BS cage and rotary mount.
* Melles Griot BS Cube PBSH-450-2000-100 $531: https://www.cvimellesgriot.com/Products/Broadband-Polarizing-Cube-Beamsplitter.aspx * Melles Griot BS Cube Adaptor Model 1307 $85: https://www.cvimellesgriot.com/Products/Cube-Polarizer-Adaptor.aspx * Melles Griot Rotary Mount Model 1100-10 $95: https://www.cvimellesgriot.com/Products/Standard-Rotary-Mounts.aspx
Newport BS Cube holder. * Newport CH-1 $199: http://search.newport.com/?q=*&x2=sku&q2=CH-1 * Threaded output so 1/4 waveplate could be mounted and aligned directly to BS cube.
- Quarter-wave plates are not made so broad band.
Thorlabs Zero-Order Quarter-Wave Plates 633nm Model: WPQ10M-633 1" diameter. Mounted: SM-1 Threaded. $503 http://www.thorlabs.com/thorProduct.cfm?partNumber=WPQ10M-633 Model: WPQ05M-633 0.5" diameter. Mounted 1" ring. $410 http://www.thorlabs.com/thorProduct.cfm?partNumber=WPQ05M-633 1550nm Model: WMQ10M-1550 1" diameter. Mounted: SM-1 Threaded. $503 http://www.thorlabs.com/thorProduct.cfm?partNumber=WPQ10M-1550 Model: WMQ05M-1550 0.5" diameter. Mounted 1" ring. $410 http://www.thorlabs.com/thorProduct.cfm?partNumber=WPQ05M-1550
THORLAB SM-1 WILL NOT MATCH THREADING IN THE MELLES GRIOT ROTARY MOUNT. 32 TPI VS 40 TPI. LIKEWISE SM-1 WILL NOT FIT NEWPORT ROTARY MOUNTS. THORLABS MOUNTED WAVE PLATES REQUIRE THORLABS ROTARY MOUNTS. $89. http://www.thorlabs.com/thorProduct.cfm?partNumber=RSP1C
Will need to buy 2 each for both RED (630nm range and 1550nm telecom laser range for tests)
- IR sensitive photodiode for coating tests and initial laser fringes
* Photodiode for Laser fringes mainly: http://www.thorlabs.com/NewGroupPage9.cfm?ObjectGroup_ID=3257&partnumber=PDF10C * NIR achromat for focusing to photodiode: http://www.thorlabs.com/NewGroupPage9.cfm?ObjectGroup_ID=899&partnumber=AC254-050-C * Vis achromat too: http://www.thorlabs.com/thorProduct.cfm?partNumber=AC254-050-A * Cheapo fixed lens holder: http://www.thorlabs.com/NewGroupPage9.cfm?ObjectGroup_ID=1433&partnumber=LMR1
