Specialty Fiber

  • JDM rejected SM fiber due to polarization mode dispersion problems for kilometric lengths
  • JDM concluded we need polarization-maintaining (PM) fiber
  • Two kinds of fiber we are considering

1. Corning Panda PM 1550 2. Corning Panda PM dispersion-shifted 1550


Composite Cable Company

  • will include copper wires in a protected cable, along with the specialty fiber
  • occfiber.com is currently best bet at $5/meter

Polarization Optics for Visible and H band Tests

  • Analyzer / Polarization Beamsplitter Cubes (need 3).

Melles Griot 255 BS cube works from visible to NIR (400-2000nm) for $581 each. Plus BS cage and rotary mount.
